Uganda - Kasese and Jinja
Kasese
is the real Africa. With views across the shimmering Rwenzori Mountains the town sits at the western edge of Uganda adjacent to one of the premiere
game reserves. Behind the beauty lies the tragedy of HIV/AIDS which
is rife amongst the local community. But there is great hope. Act4Africa
has formed a partnership with a local church which is committed to turning
the tide of the AIDS crisis through educating young people and challenging
cultural norms. Act4Africa is one of the few charitable agencies that
has committed to helping local churches fulfill that vision. The expedition
also includes several days work with our local Act4Africa team in Jinja and a visit to the MildMay children’s AIDS hospice near Kampala.
Here we spend time with the sick children and share the love of Christ
with those for whom education has come too late.
Tanzania – Dar es Salaam
Situated on the tropical shores of the Indian Ocean this is the premier
city of Tanzania. This African jewel is beginning to grapple with the
devastating effects of the current HIV/AIDS epidemic which is sweeping
through sub Saharan Africa. Working with our dynamic Act4Africa local
team from the Amana Youth Centre, Dar es Salaam, we will be serving in
communities, villages, the market place and on beach missions. We will
also help to deliver HIV/AIDS awareness workshops in local schools.
Malawi – Lilongwe
Malawi is a beautiful lush fertile country known as the ‘warm
heart of Africa’. The Great Rift Valley passes through Malawi forming the trough in which the massive Lake Malawi sits. The scenery
is breathtaking and varied while the people tend to be extremely friendly.
However, HIV/AIDS infection rates are high and we will be working in
Lilongwe in collaboration with our local church partners who are running
an innovative ‘Action for Behaviour Change’ programme to
combat HIV/AIDS. We also aim to set up our own local team to deliver
our schools sexual health education programme.
Act4Africa expeditions to Tanzania and Uganda are taking place as usual this summer, however due to the current exceptional circumstances in Kenya we will not be visiting Nairobi this year. |
